OUR MISSION

At WellVet our mission is to inspire and support individuals and veterinary teams to thrive.

WellVet is a not-for-profit social enterprise organised by vets Liz Barton, Katie Ford, Nat Scroggie and Ru Tipney. Brought together by a passion for improving the wellbeing of veterinary professionals and teams, we are driven to make a positive difference to the lives of fellow vets, vet nurses, the wider practice team, and people in veterinary education and industry.

We love to collaborate with individuals, practices and organisations to help people across the veterinary world to develop their own tools for happier living.

Liz Barton

Liz Barton has enjoyed a varied veterinary career since graduating in 2004. She became increasingly concerned about the mental and physical wellbeing of friends and colleagues in the profession, and set about curating and collating support resources in a free access website, Vetsnet.

She founded communities for sport (Vet Active) and parenting (Vet Mums) to provide a space for connection, empathy and peer support.

Together with Ru and Nat, she has realised WellVet – a passion to encourage veterinary staff to explore and develop proactive measures to support their own wellbeing, and each other. Alongside events, this will include merging the Vetsnet resource website into WellVet to provide a truly unique and valuable wellbeing platform for the whole veterinary community.

Mum of two young girls, Liz enjoys cycling, running and bootcamp-style exercises and has developed a recent penchant for a bit of yoga.

Katie is an experienced small animal vet, having graduated from Liverpool in 2012 and gaining her RCVS Certificate in Internal Medicine in 2017. She became passionate about opening conversations up around imposter syndrome and self-doubt following her own experiences in the veterinary profession, and trained as a certified coach with further study in a number of areas, as well as publishing a series of books. Katie grew a following of over 18,000 across social media, and is an international and keynote speaker, both in the vet profession and beyond. She co-founded Vet Empowered in 2020, offering personal development content and group coaching services, namely to recent graduates.

As her businesses grew, she saw the importance of money mindset and financial independence, not only within her own clients but in making personal progress too. She joined VetYou as a co-director, helping to break down barriers around finances within the profession and to enable access to timely, expert financial advice. She is currently studying for a Masters Degree in Emotional Wellbeing Therapy.

Outside of work, she loves to keep active, particularly with mountain biking and Crossfit. She is fascinated by all things space, and skydived over NASA last year. She has two very fluffy ragdoll cats and a whole myriad of fish!

She is a gratitude enthusiast, championing the scientific evidence behind its benefits, and she loves helping more recent graduates thrive by being the European mentor for VetX Thrive. She believes in multiple income streams towards financial freedom, helping to manage her partner’s online events as well as other online business ventures.
