The inaugural WellVet weekend proved a huge success, bringing together sports, socials, relaxation and wellbeing workshops.
VetLed joined up with Vetsnet to realise a vision for a weekend of fitness, fun and re-fuelling mind, body and soul, and thus the WellVet Weekend was born. This summer in the stunning setting of Girton College, Cambridge we hosted 70 vets and nurses for running, cycling, yoga, wellbeing workshops, a pub quiz and gala dinner. AVS for grown ups!
SPVS and RCVS joined us to launch their practice Wellbeing Awards, and VetFit gave a great summary of their research into sport and wellbeing for veterinary students. Adrian Boswood joined us to lead the Tour de Cambridge bike ride, while the WellVet run was headed the Vetfit team and This Vet Runs, Nat Scroggie, bringing the runners home
Our gala dinner included a motivational speaker who is both a vet and unparalleled in his sporting achievement; to have run FURTHER than Forrest Gump! Rob Pope completed the Forrest Gump run of over 15,000 miles across the USA. He shared the highs and lows of his incredible endeavours. Shailen Jasani of The Ralph closed with an inspirational speech on achieving great dreams, free of stress!
In the words of Ebony Escalona: ““It was inclusive, fun, novel, reflective and allowed a community to share experiences in the flesh and make some wonderful memories.”
With 78% of attendees rating the weekend as ‘Excellent’ and 93% saying they’d recommend it friends and colleagues, we’re already busy planning next year’s event. Watch this space…
